The concept for the Yakima Country Club came into existence in 1915 when a small group of business and professional men was determined to provide for the growing community of Yakima a social center and a site for playing the increasingly popular game of golf. They persevered in this project despite the fact the world was locked in the most terrific war up to that time.
Mr. Julius Harrah, the son of a wealthy eastern steel manufacturer, and for whom the town of Harrah is named, latched onto the club idea and headed the group clearing rocks and sagebrush to make way for the original 9-hole course. This same Mr. Harrah advanced the funds – a sizable amount – to make possible the first club house which was destroyed by fire in 1931. An additional clubhouse also succumbed to fire in 1943. Our current clubhouse was originally built in 1949 and has undergone renovations and expansions over time, the most recent of which was the expansion of the bar and the addition of the East and West wings and North patio in 2016.
Over the years, YCC has continued to grow with the second 9-holes added in 1953. Today more than 105 years since that hardy group cleared the land, the Yakima Country Club provides to its members the finest golf experience in Central Washington along with multiple courts for tennis and pickle ball, a newly renovated pool and playground as well as our welcoming clubhouse and multiple dining areas.
